Double-wall systems wall panels floor panels prestressed-precast spandrels

Wall Panels – The double-wall precast insulated concrete sandwich wall panels are manufactured to the most stringent specifications at our state-of the art facility in Naperville, Illinois. The most commonly specified thickness of the wall panels is 8 inches. The walls can also be built 10 and 12 inches thick if desired. A typical 8-inch wall panel consists of two wythes (layers) of reinforced concrete (each wythe is 2 1/2 – 3/8 inches thick) sandwiched around 3 inches of high R-value insulating foam. The two wythes of the interior and exterior concrete layers are held together with steel trusses. The insulation is continuous throughout the wall section. The composite sandwich wall section has an R-value exceeding R-19. The wall panels can be made to any height desired, up to a limit of 12 feet.

Many owners prefer a 9-foot clear height for the quality of look and feel it affords a building.

Floor Panels – The double-wall floor panels are typically produced in both 10-inch and 12-inch thick sections. The most common thickness specified is the 10-inch thickness. Spans approaching 30 feet in length can be achieved with the double-wall floor panel system. The bottom wythe of the double-wall floor panel is pre-stressed to achieve the span length and surface quality. The unique manufacturing process is what differentiates the double-wall floor from the typical hollow-core floor. Because double-wall floors are form finished on both sides at the plant, the floor panels are drywall smooth on each side. No additional toppings are needed on the floor surface and the ceiling does not have that roughened, popcorn spray appearance.

Energy Efficiency & Safety – Double-wall building structures take full advantage of "total systems thinking" in achieving the greatest energy-efficiency and life safety for the building envelope. Double-wall building components (walls and floors) are versatile in their approach to fully address the heating and cooling needs for residential and commercial buildings. The inherent strength of reinforced concrete gives the building owner the added protection from the threats of storms and fire.

Construction Process – On-site construction procedures with the double-wall precast concrete system allows for a much more rapid completion schedule than conventional construction. There are a few unique aspects of precast construction procedures that differ from "normal" construction for the project. The completed building will have the attractive visual appearance of any other quality-built structure. The real difference is the added benefits of energy-efficiency, storm safety and long-term durability that are inherent with this type of construction methodology.

When a building must accommodate for neighbors whom will share common walls and floors/ceilings, excellent performance in the areas of fire safety and noise reduction should be a priority. Double-wall precast floor panels and wall panels are the ideal method to achieve these goals, while still having the ability to select unique designs and appearances for individual units within a complex.

When a building needs to serve several functions for the building owner, the double-wall precast system can be combined with other traditional precast components to provide a beautiful, durable, cost-efficient mixed-use structure. The integration of conventional prestessed-precast structural members for at-grade or below-grade parking, combined with some commercial space and residential in the upper floors is an ideal application of this system. The initial cost and time savings on construction, and the reduced yearly expenditures for operations of an energy-efficient precast structure can really add up.

Increased fire-resistance, lower energy bills, lower insurance premiums, quieter and more comfortable living conditions throughout every room, better storm safety and higher overall quality; all good reasons to choose a better-built house and make it your home. Double-wall precast insulated concrete walls and floors help ensure that the look, feel and durability of high quality construction materials and methods will be delivered to and enjoyed by the homeowner.

Whether the student housing consists of self-contained individual units or shared suites with separate bedroom areas, the need for quiet and comfortable living conditions are of great importance for both the students and the officials at the university or college they chose to attend. Double-wall provides for flexibility in cost-effective design layout, without sacrificing the tremendous safety and energy-efficiency inherent with this type of quality construction.

Double-wall precast concrete walls and floors provide superior sound attenuation between adjacent living units. That is important issue for the tenants occupying your building as they consider renewing their lease for the following year. Also, whoever is responsible for paying the utility bills for these units will get a pleasant surprise every month; the energy bills can be reduced by over half verses a building constructed with traditional methods.
