The win takes C & K level with Chelmsford City on five County Cup wins and leading scorer Addison proved too much as the Premier League South side overcame their Eastern Region Premier Division opponents. Before the match, C & K founder and Chairman, Peter King, predicted an England international future for his side’s diminutive striker and his claims were backed up with a display of astute finishing.

“She’s been outstanding this year for us, she’s a threat to any full back she’s played against,” praised C & K’s experienced boss Steve Tilson after the game on his side’s four-goal hero. “Again she’s shown it tonight with another four goals.”

Alongside her twin sister Therese in attack, Angela and her C & K team mates enjoyed much of the possession, but they often found a resolute Brentwood back line in their way, even if a late flurry of goals gave a heavy-looking final score line.

“We knew it would be a tough game and at 2-0 at half time we expected to be fitter over the 90 minutes,” reflected Tilson. “But fair play to Brentwood. They kept going and made a good game of it. In the end maybe we could’ve won by more if we’d put our chances away, but we’re pleased with the win and pleased for the chairman to get the five wins.”

With the County Cup in the bag, there’s now the small matter of the Women’s Premier League title for second-placed C & K, who are hoping a top spot finish will be enough to be granted a Super League license at the end of the season. “It’ll be tough [to win the title],” added Tilson. “There’s six games to go and I think we’ll have to win all six to have a chance of winning it. But, the way the girls are playing, there’s no reason why we can’t do it.”

Indeed, his side’s ability and confidence often showed on the slick artificial surface at Parkside and Brentwood goalkeeper Kelly Walker had already made a good stop to keep out Angela Addison before the forward notched her first to put C & K ahead on 13 minutes, latching onto a ball over the top and poking past Walker.

April Bowers then pulled an angled shot just wide from Therese Addison’s pull back and the latter also saw an effort blocked at the near post. Brentwood’s goalkeeper Walker later tipped Zoe Rushen’s free kick over the top and then denied Rushen from range before C & K doubled the lead on 38 minutes. Ellie Manning’s corner found Angela Addison, who rifled in.

C & K were inches from a third before the break. Danica Revell stabbed an effort against the post and Walker made another good save to block Bowers. That crucial third for C & K did eventually arrive just three minutes into the second half as Angela Addison completed her hat-trick with an excellent near-post finish.

Jay Blackie swept home a left-flank ball to make it 4-0 on 77 minutes but, moments later, Drew Allen created Brentwood’s best chance when her dipping, long-range strike brought a good save from C & K ‘keeper Nikita Runnacles, who tipped the ball over the top.

On 81 minutes another Manning corner saw Rushen head in number five, with the sixth arriving a minute into added time as Karissa Rodney’s low centre was slid home by Angela Addison. A further two minutes into added time, C & K added a seventh when Rushen’s free kick dropped inside the far post from the edge of the area.
