University of Michigan—College of Engineering is seeking a Digital Graphic Designer in Ann Arbor, MI

Michigan Engineering produces award-winning, class-leading stories, videos and photography, presented on high-impact, high-visibility websites. As a designer with Michigan Engineering Communications & Marketing, you’ll get to work with a team of photographers, videographers, storytellers, marketers and developers to make your awesome graphic design concepts reality in one of the top ranked engineering schools in the country.

You will not only create cutting-edge design, but ensure all properties adhere to brand standards. While working on projects, you will be responsible for communicating with in-office stakeholders, as well as outside vendors and on-campus partners. The digital designer will not be not be required to perform any development tasks, however you must be able to “speak code.” The ideal candidate will also have a strong desire to develop graphic design skills in addition to currently held digital design capabilities.

Paramount to this position is a commitment to collaboration and teamwork. We expect you to make your voice heard and to actively participate in the creative process. You will be collaborating with our team of designers, multimedia producers, developers, content writers, and project managers, and will be encouraged to take the personal initiative to complete projects with minimal supervision.

Applicants should have excellent communication skills with non-technical, technical co-workers, as well as external stakeholders. They should have a proven ability to set and manage priorities (for self and for projects), handle multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines, and operate in a flexible, professional manner. Applicants should have the ability to successfully work in teams; the ability to adapt to change and thrive in an environment filled with change. They should love giving and receiving thoughtful feedback, and not be afraid to change their mind.

The ideal candidate will be proficient in all design aspects, be familiar with UX/UI best practices and theory and have an excellent understanding of current web accessibility best practices. Creativity and attention to detail are critical, as many College sites have very high visibility. They will sweat the details, but see the bigger picture. A customer service-minded approach will be used to build productive relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
